Xishuangbanna Dai Minority's Autonomous Prefecture is located in the south of Yunnan Province, the People's Republic of China. Xishuangbanna borders on Laos in the east and on Burma in the west, covers an area of about 19700 square km, including 1 city (Jinghong) and 2 counties (Menghai and Mengla), with a population of about 830 thousand consisting of nationalities as Han, Dai, Hani, Lahu, Bulang, Yao, Yi, Wa, Bai, etc., among which population of ethic groups makes up 73.9 percent of total and Dai's accounts for 34.8 percent. Jinghong city is the capital of Xishuangbanna, as well the economic and cultural center.
Xishuangbanna geographically inclines from north to south, the highest point is Huazhuliangzi Peak, where the altitude is 2429 meters, the lowest point is where the Mekong River flows out of China, elevation there is only 480 meters. Tropical climate and subtropical climate are the main climate types in Xishuangbanna, hot and humid, annual average temperature is 18.1--21.7 degrees Centigrade and annual rainfall is 1200mm--1600mm. There are no obvious 4 seasons in this area, only 2 seasons--raining season (May--October) and dry season (November--April of next year). Plenty of rainfall and warmth provides tropical plants and animals with the best habitat, 2400 square km of tropical rainforest and various wild lives make Xishuangbanna reputed as Tropical Fauna & Flora Kingdom.
